Grown-Up Party Mix

A little more sophisticated—and better-tasting—than the one you might remember.

Makes 12 servings

ACTIVE TIME: 5 minutes

TOTAL TIME: 45 minutes

EASE OF PREPARATION: Easy

4 cups mixed Rice and Wheat Chex cereals
2 cups mini pretzels
2 tablespoon freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Combine cereals, pretzels, Parmesan cheese, garlic salt, onion powder, black pepper and cayenne pepper in a large bowl. Toss with oil and Worcestershire sauce. Spread on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Bake until toasted, stirring often, about 40 minutes.

NUTRITION INFORMATION: Per 1/2-cup serving: 60 calories; 2 g fat (0 g sat, 1 g mono); 1 mg cholesterol; 11 g carbohydrate; 1 g protein; 1 g fiber; 193 mg sodium; 32 mg potassium.

I buy three of the highest fiber "chex" type cereals I can get in the organic section. To disperse the small amount of oil mixture, I dip the tines of a fork into it and then flick it onto the cereal mix.It takes an extra minute but gets even distribution. Instead of pretzels, I add a handful of roasted almonds after baking. Yummy!
