Healthy Frozen Dessert Tips

  • Iced Lychees: Crown your dessert with China’s “King of Fruits.” The lychee fruit, whose flesh resembles a grape but tastes slightly sweeter, is considered good luck in China. For a sorbet-like version of this vitamin C- and potassium-rich fruit, drain canned lychees (found in the Asian section of supermarkets) and freeze on a sheet pan for at least 2 hours before serving.
  • Soften Up: Homemade ice creams, frozen yogurts and sorbets can become very hard when stored in the freezer for prolonged periods. To make them scoopable, transfer to the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes to soften. Alternatively, microwave on Defrost or Medium-Low for 30 to 60 seconds.
